The General Assembly will meet on Friday, 14 June 2013 to formally elect the President of the General Assembly for its sixty-eighth session. The position rotates regionally each year. The 68th session will be presided over by the nominee of the Latin American & Caribbean regional group. The group reached consensus in December 2011 and will nominate Antigua and Barbuda’s UN Ambassador John William Ashe. No other candidates are expected to be nominated.
The Main Committees will meet afterwards for the purpose of electing their respective chairs and bureaux for the sixty-eighth session. After these are chosen, the General Assembly will hold another plenary meeting to elect the Vice-Presidents for the sixty-eighth session.
