- The 65th session of the UN General Assembly convened on Tuesday, with Joseph Deiss of Switzerland as President. Mr. Deiss’ beat out Mr. Louis Michel of Belgium in the election for the post on 11 June 2010.
- Going into the 65th Session, six member states are sufficiently delinquent in the dues to fall under Article 19. All six are African states – Central African Republic, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia.
- Germany and other EU states appear willing to consider reduced representation on the IMF Board, but also want a reform package to include reducing the U.S.’ voting quota as well. The “gentlemen’s agreement” that the IMF is always a European (as the President of the World Bank is an American) also appears to be on the table.
