Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon re-nominated UN High Commissioner António Guterres today to a second 5-year term in the post.
As discussed in an earlier post, the exact language is that Mr. Guterres’ term “be extended” for another five years. The nomination will go to the General Assembly for approval (by consensus) within the next few weeks as item 111(b) of the Assembly’s 64th Session Agenda (PDF).
Update, 22 April: The General Assembly today approved the 5-year extension of Mr. Guterres’ term.
