- India’s ambassador to the US, Meera Shankar, hopes that President Barack Obama will support India’s campaign for a permanent Security Council seat, joining the United Kingdom and France.
- Esther Brimmer, with the U.S. State Department, notes the U.S. will continue “to discourage the global community from electing unqualified candidates” to the Human Rights Council, noting the U.S.’s “intense, sustained diplomacy” among governments that resulted in Iran’s withdrawal from the race earlier this year.
